A letter meme

1. Leave a comment to this post!
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Post the names of five fictional characters whose names begin with that letter, and your thoughts on each. The characters can be from books, movies, or TV shows.
My favorite characters whose names begin with D:
1. Deanna Troi
In STTNG she's always so poised and competent, advising Picard and soothing the feelings of the crew. I loved her interactions with Data in the later seasons, the way she spoke to him while the android petted his ginger cat. Deanna is able and smart, she even commands the Enterprise in one episode. She also has an affair with Riker and later with Whorf.
And the way her mother is always riling up Picard! Priceless!

2. D'Artagnan
He's the most cunning Musketeer. Though he may not be as learned as Aramis, I identify the most with the irrepressible Gascon. Since the first pages of 'The three musketeers,' when he travels from Gascony to Paris on his ailing, strangely-colored horse - which brings to mind Don Quixote's Rocinante - to the part in the 'Viscount of Bragelonne' where he dies, he's the quintessential Dumas hero, and my own.

3. diGriz, Angelina
She is the wife of James Bolivar diGriz, aka the Stainless Steel Rat. Jim is a thief and rascal who manages to do good whilst stuffing his coffers. He's always braving danger and outsmarting people. Angelina tops all that.
She brings flair and menace to his capers, rescuing him in more than one occasion. She is also the mother of twins who remind me of the Weasley twins. Coddling Jim whilst piloting a spaceship and outfoxing their enemies, Angelina is cool!

4. R. Daneel Olivaw
He's the protagonist of Isaac Asimov's Robot novels, along with plainclothesman Elijah Bailey. They star in such classics as Caves of Steel, The naked sun and The robots of dawn.
The R in front of his name? Daneel is a robot, you see. He's bound by the Three Laws of Robotics, and yet he and R. Giskard Reventlov manage to enunciate a fourth law that will enable them to protect humanity in 'Robots and Empire.'
The relationship between Daneel and Elijah is unique, and I enjoy both characters immensely.

5. Draco Malfoy
He's smart, misunderstood, and he rebels against his destiny in more than one occasion though subtly, as befits a Slytherin. Strangely enough, I didn't pay attention to him when reading the Potter books. It was the fanfic writers who made me realize his potential, and how lovable he was beneath the smirks and taunts. He's vulnerable and weak at times, he cries and despite it all - who is there in the all-important epilogue? The Trio and Draco Malfoy.
He's a survivor through and through, and most importantly, he's my own special hero.
