Summary: During their last ever Hogwarts game, Harry and Draco chase the Snitch. Really.
Notes: This is part of a series of drabbles I'm writing using songs as inspiration; this one from Gabriel's oboe by Ennio Morricone
Draco dove into the cloud, gazing left and right as he chased the Snitch. He leaned slightly to the left and the Firebolt swerved towards the foggiest section. Draco smiled at the aerodynamic perfection between his legs; his father had finally relented and purchased him the latest model. His nostrils flared as he inhaled the scent of the wax he'd used to polish the wood. He canted up his slim hips and leaned down, changing the centre of gravity of the broom which swooped downwards.
His green cloak provided the only touch of colour within the mist as he levelled the broom and looked up, shouting into the whiteness that enveloped him, "Scared, Potter?"
"You wish." Harry's strong voice came from above. Draco shook his head; the brunet was just where he expected him to be. Sometimes he wondered if a magical field connected him to Harry. Draco had the uncanny ability to know where Potter was. Their connection had grown with the years since he had spotted at Madame Malkin's the thin, speccy boy with the unruly mop of hair.
"Oi, ferret! Reckon this game has lasted too long."
"You're right, Potthead," drawled Draco, delighting in the freedom of flying. This was the last game of their Hogwarts careers, end of term was but a week away. He felt Eighth Year had passed as swiftly as the wind which buffeted his body. Draco's lips curled up in a slight smirk when he remembered his fears of returning to Hogwarts. It wasn't as hard as he thought because Harry was there. Freed from the constraints of the war and his loyalty to the deluded Voldemort, their rivalry eased into a friendship which seemed as comforting as flying. Draco's pale cheeks bloomed red when he recalled their increasingly bold flirting.
"Doesn't matter who catches the Snitch," Harry said from below. "Hufflepuff will win the Cup."
"Indeed," Draco said shortly. He had seen a break in the cloud and made his escape, calling over his shoulder, "Who wants to fight for lousy third place?"
Scenting Harry's cologne, Draco nudged his broom to the right whilst Harry swooped up with the ease of a predator seeking his prey.
The two figures veered closer in the collision course they both desired, tilting their bodies towards each other amidst the thinning fog. They kissed briefly before a strong gust of wind pulled them apart. Their actions didn't go unnoticed though.
"And Harry and Draco finally kiss at last!" Luna yelled at the top of her lungs. The stands remained silent; only Hermione and Luna clapped at first, joined timidly by Neville and finally Ron.
On the Slytherin side, Blaise cat-called whilst Pansy glared daggers at the First Years until they duly started clapping.
Luna huffed into the microphone, "What's with you lot? You shouldn't be surprised; everyone could notice the two were eye-shagging each other through…"
"Miss Lovegood!" shrieked McGonagall, and then she pursed her lips into a thin line.
"Didn't you see the way Harry's eyes bulged when Voldemort hugged Draco?"
"Miss Lovegood, that's enough!" McGonagall grabbed her hat as she made to stand up.
"It wasn't the nargles for sure, I can tell you that," said Luna primly.
Meanwhile the two Seekers were trying to hold hands. It proved difficult so they reluctantly broke the contact. Draco licked his lips, eyeing sideways the striking silhouette of the Gryffindor's lean body, framed by his flapping Quidditch cloak. Harry's strong hands were protected by the thick leather gloves.
"That will teach Pansy!" said Draco.
"Why? Reckon she was cheering you on."
"Said it was a pipe dream, that I had my head in the clouds."
Harry smiled tenderly at his flying companion. "Well, Malfoy, at the moment we both have our heads in the clouds."
Draco snorted whilst Harry pointed in front of them. "Saw the Snitch disappear into that cloud. Scared to follow?"
Harry darted away and Draco stared longingly at his back until he dashed after him, shouting, "You wish!"
Intent on their chasing game, the two boys headed into the mist until their blond and black mops were swallowed by the cloud.
