Storyline: The pull of the soulmate bond threatens to destroy Bella’s relationship with Edward. Despite their fights, Edward and Jacob are relentlessly drawn to each other. Finally Bella turns away from Jake and Edward in despair. Later she tries to seeks succor in Jacob, but he has already imprinted on Edward, so there’s nothing he can do.

During the confrontation with Victoria and Riley, Bella does her utmost to save Edward. Riley believed Victoria was his soulmate, but the vampiress coldly leaves him to die. Despite Bella’s heroics, true love stumps her. After Jake was hurt during the battle with the newborns, Jake and Edward go on a camping trip where Jake tells Edward: “soulmates never die.”
