A question meme I found on the web :)

1. One book that changed your life?
2. One book you have read more than once?
3. One book you would want on a desert island?
4. One book that made you laugh?
5. One book that made you cry?
6. One book you wish had been written?
7. One book you wish had never had been written?
8. One book you are currently reading?
9. One book you have been meaning to read?

1. One book that changed your life? The Algebra textbook clearly written which helped me understand this difficult subject when I needed it. Generally, any helpful textbooks.

2. One book you have read more than once? Umberto Eco's Foucault's Pendulum.

3. One book you would want on a desert island? Tolstoy's War and Peace. It's a long book set in Russia, depicting battles in winter, ballrooms and court life. It would surely make me forget the coconuts falling down on my head :)

4. One book that made you laugh? Several books by Kurt Vonnegut; I love his humor. Also Spider Robinson's Callahan's Saloon series.

5. One book that made you cry? Victor Hugo's The Miserables. Not only Fantine's cruel destiny but Jean Valjean's death, plus the fact the book ended. I'd been reading it for a month and I just wanted the book to go on and on.

6. One book you wish had been written? The Miserables part II; The Miserables part III and so on :)

7. One book you wish had never had been written? None. I won't deride books other people draw enjoyment from.

8. One book you are currently reading? Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell

9. One book you have been meaning to read?  Antonia Fraser's Marie Antoinette.

So, which book have you read more than once?

I've read one page more of Cloud...

That book helped with concrete steps. I guess any one hasn't changed it but, as a whole, they have influenced it! :)

No, I didn't. It must be lj doing its thing.

Want a list?:DDD I've read many books more than once so...,well I think the one I've read at least 5 times (with some years in between) is
'Mooie Mensen' (transl.= 'Beautiful People') by the Dutch writer Belinda Meuldijk, about the(rock) music scene and how fake most of he beauty and romance of such a life is!

Written from the pov.of a groupy/photographer, that lost herself in drugs, when everything she hoped for,the life she thought would be so wonderfull ,turned out to be nothing but an empty shell!:(

In the end they find her lifeless body in a rainy park, in her hand a curl of hair from the beautiful guitarist she loved so much, but who left her time and time again!

This book is also the one that made me cry,and even laugh sometimes!

The music scene is harsh, all that glamor but things get desperate.

It was tragic for the girl, all that hope lost! :(

What a sad ending! Reminds me of the Jim Morrison movie with Val Kilmer.

I can understand that!

Yes it is and it can bring a lot of heartache!

Well that's how life works mostly,it makes you loose hope!

I've seen the movie but as a Doors/Jim fan I wasn't really happy with Val playing Jim!
My brother and I had hoped for the 'older brother' from the movie'The lost boys' to get the role of Jim!(Don't know if you've ever seen it?!)

It's intense and high-pressure.

Jake said it, "life sucks, and then you die." But since he hangs out with Bella, I take his words with a grain of salt :)))

You mean Jason Patric? he would've been a fine Jim. That was a good movie.

You're in the music business then.

Yes,Jason Patric!!!Forgot his name and I was to lazy to google it!
Jason looked very much like Jim,he would have been perfect, and he was way hotter than Val!!!

Yes it was, we loved that movie(still do)It's a classic!:D

I've read about it.

He looked like Jim in that movie, with the long hair and the intense look. Val was bulkier than Jim.

It's been a while since I saw it. The vampires were mean though! :DDD

You sounded so sure in both comments,as if you knew from personal experience!
But you're a writer,so you're probably used to place yourself in someone else's shoes!

He did,he was a 'wild boy'!
Somehow I never really liked Val!

It's been a while for me as well, but they surely were!:DDD

Ed should be a bit more like that,I really like that scene where he looks into the camera with the blood dripping from his mouth!

I guess it comes from reading books and articles about bands, and following the struggles of artists like Stevie Nicks. That I do!

Patric was tough. I did like Val when he was fat at the end of the movie :)

It was a good film, and the vamps were tough.

Both Ed and Jake should be given free rein, to struggle and be mean while still being good. Show their dark side.

He looked so forlorn and yet deadly! :)

I agree with a lot of these. And you reminded me; I really need to read Cloud Atlas, actually.

They're good books. Cloud Atlas is an interesting read, the different time periods are intriguing.
