Severus sneered at the weedy-looking witch. "Miss Swan, won't you close your slack mouth? It makes you look rather... stupid."

Bella whimpered, clutching Hagrid's Monster Book of Monsters to her chest. The book woke up at the contact and began to snap at her furiously. Sighing, Snape shook his head.

"Miss Swan," drawled Severus, crossing his arms slowly.

"What?" snapped Bella, and then yelped at a particularly nasty bite of the book.

"Pet the book."

"Whaaaaatt?" The book's jaws closed firmly around Bella's arm. She wrestled valiantly with the growling tome, wondering when Jacob and Edward were coming back from that Puddifoot place.

Snape made tsking sounds whilst Bella whimpered brokenly.

"Those silly boys you hang out with aren't here to save you, are they? Probably busy at Madame Puddifoot's making eyes at each other." Snape sniffed haughtily whilst Bella's body jerked around in the bench as she and the book fought.

Severus shuddered at the thought of another Trio prowling the school, and hoped the two boys had managed to sneak out of Hogwarts using the passage he pointed out to the prettier one.

"Pet the book, you silly bint, pet the book!" snarled Snape, and then turned at the sound of Neville's cauldron exploding.

The potion rained down and drenched Bella's robes, causing her to instantly shrink while her face became even more pointy and slimy. The transformation ended with a snail squirming upon the bench, her antennae quivering in fear at the sight of the enraged, humongous Potions Master.

"Longbottom, do something useful for once," said Snape, looking down his nose at the slimy trail the snail left behind on the bench. It was better than her awkward stumbling around, he decided with a curt nod.

He pointed at Bella. "Take Miss Swan to the Forbidden Forest and leave her there!"

The snail's shell shivered in dread.
