There's nothing like holding a science-fiction magazine in your hands, feeling the smooth cover and looking forward to the promise of the stories inside, which might entertain and delight.
I don't remember this story that well, only that the shirtless guy is fighting some post-apocalyptic aliens or government.

This story I remember very well: it's The rose and the scalpel by Gregory Benford. The rose is Joanne of Arc and the Scalpel is Voltaire. The way they meet and discuss things is very interesting. Benford used this in the novel he wrote for the Foundation series.

The next one is the cover for Charles Sheffield's Proteus Unbound. That was a series that was published in Analog, quite nifty story featuring an interesting use of entropy in the Outer Solar System.

At any rate, this is what I had before fanfiction :)

I know the feeling of holding a book(not just sci-fi )and feeling the cover and I even like the dusty smell of really old books!
Older (comic)books and magazine's have something mysterious!
